History

Founded in 1947 by a group of marine insurance underwriters, the Houston Mariners Club has grown today to include underwriters, agents, brokers, surveyors, adjustors and attorneys. The uniting factor of the membership is that, regardless of the exact type of business, at least 50 percent of that business is related to the maritime industry. This requirement for membership is usually confirmed by one’s relationship to either the marine insurance industry or the offshore energy insurance industry.

The Club meets monthly, often in different venues―from luncheon meetings at the Port of Houston to fundraising events such as an annual golf tournament, fishing tournament and chili cook off. We also sponsor continuing education courses for both insurance and legal professionals. Our meetings vary with some being purely social in purpose and offering an opportunity to “network” with fellow colleagues while discussing mutual interests.

Through our various events, the Houston Mariners Club is proud to support many worthwhile charities including:

  • International Seafarers’ Center,
  • The Kid’s Unlimited Foundation,
  • The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Fund,
  • The Houston Maritime Museum,
  • The Houston Food Bank,
  • The Salvation Army,
  • The Star of Hope Mission, and
  • The Wounded Warrior Project.

If you’d like to join our now more than 400 active members, we invite you to attend one of our meetings and/or contact one of our officers for more information.
