HMC August 2021 Newsletter
Skipper's Corner

Fellow HMC Members,

I am pleased to present you with a newsletter filled with positive developments and upcoming events! It seems things are returning to normal with a full calendar starting in August. On that note, let us all remember that without the payment of your membership dues, not all events and charitable donations will be possible. Now that we are getting back into the swing of things, it’s time to start paying dues again.

I hope you’re as excited about the upcoming happenings as much as the Officers are and enjoy this third and final Newsletter installment for the 2020-2021 membership year.

Don’t forget to keep up with the HMC on Facebook and LinkedIn!

Yours faithfully,
Claire E. B. Garza
Skipper

Welcome To Our New Members

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to the following newest members of the HMC:

  • Jan Herveat, of Travelers
  • Cindy Muller, of Jones Walker
  • Ryan Cheramie, of INSGROUP Inc.
  • Stormy Strickland, of Phelps Dunbar

Welcome to the Club!

New Website

We are thrilled to announce that the Club’s brand-new website is officially live! As a result of the prior website’s platform becoming obsolete, the Officers worked diligently to revamp the website and move the management responsibilities over to a new company, Nurick & Associates. We may be a bit partial, but we think the website looks fantastic and hope you do too. Please check it out and let us know if you run into any issues or have any suggestions to make it even better.

Please note, the first time you visit the website at www.houstonmarinersclub.com, you will need to login as a new member (even if you are a current member!). Given that the membership year technically ended on July 31, 2021 and given that nearly the entire membership needs to renew and pay dues, it is perfect timing to include the annual dues payment will be a part of this initial login process.

If you have already paid dues, or you are a Past Skipper and no longer required to pay dues, you will be emailed a confidential discount code to negate payment later this week.

Please reach out to Yeoman [email protected] with any questions surrounding membership.

Annual Meeting

As discussed in the prior Newsletter, in light of the unusual and off-calendar year acceleration of the Officers’ ascension, the Officers and Board (with the exception of myself and a Board member who recused himself from the vote) voted unanimously to afford me the opportunity to continue my term as Skipper into what was originally going to be my skipper year. I will therefore continue serving as Skipper for the full 2021-2022 membership year. In turn, the present Officers and Board will retain their places for the 2021-2022 membership year as well. As a result, the Annual Meeting will not encompass voting and will focus largely on the financial and membership statuses of the Club, as well as the charitable donations for the 2020-2021 membership year.

Given the nature of this year’s Annual Meeting, the Officers felt that a virtual meeting would suffice and be most convenient for the Membership. Please join us live on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 12:00 PM CST for a brief virtual Annual Meeting. Details will be sent separately. We look forward to updating you on the Club’s developments and having the traditional in-person Annual Meeting in the upcoming membership year.

Sincerely,

Your Skipper

Claire E. B. Garza

Dues: An impact on the HMC’s Finances

The ever-dreaded dues talk. Here it is. While the Club has managed to weather the storm comprised of unprecedented events over the past year and a half, it was not without a toll.

Lack of events led to a dramatic decrease in payment of dues and tariff/sponsorship income, which are the lifeblood of the HMC. The unavoidable need for a new website also led to use of HMC funds.

The Officers and Board ask you and your companies to please continue to support the Mariners Club through payment of your dues. As discussed in relation to the new website, each member will need to complete the initial login process, which includes payment of dues. We strongly encourage each of you to complete the initial process as soon as possible, as the website will be utilized as a communications hub.

Instructions:

Visit www.houstonmarinersclub.com and select the “Join Us” tab. Next, click the blue “Sign Up Now” button, click “Select” for the HMC Annual 2021-2022 dues choice, and follow the steps under “Account Information.”

NOTE: You will need to go through these steps even if you are not a new member and previously had an account under the old website!

If you already paid your dues, or are a Past Skipper, you will be provided with a confidential discount code to ensure you do not pay during this process. The discount code will be sent to you later this week.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Purser [email protected] with any questions you have surrounding payment, and Yeoman [email protected] with regard to general membership questions.

Thank you in advance!
